Anna had given birth to her first child at Westmead Public hospital in the birth centre and had an amazing experience. For the delivery of her second child she wanted the same water birth experience and was lucky enough to once again have the same midwife. Over the course of her pregnancy her relationship with her midwife had given her tremendous support and both of them were so pleased that the timing was right and that she was there to attend her birth.
The day started early with Anna ringing me excited her contractions had started, her first birth had been quite short so with being an hour away I thought it best to head to the hospital. About 30 mins from Westmead Hospital Anna called me in the car to tell me her contractions had eased and she was going to stay at home. I changed route and headed to her house instead. We spent the morning having a chat and a cup of tea but at around midday I though it best to leave her to have some quiet time as the contractions were starting up again. At 4pm Anna called it was time they were heading to the hospital. Anna’s baby daughter was born in the early evening after a short uncomplicated labour . Her little girl weighed in at 4.3 kilo and was lovingly welcomed by her big sister who witnessed her birth.
